stahlhelm
The term Stahlhelm (lit. "steel helmet") refers to the iconic series of German-designed combat helmets that were used by the Imperial German Army soldiers during World War I, replacing the Pickelhaube during World War I, as well as by the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS during the World War II. The helmets were also used by civil defense organizations as well.
Other countries have used Stahlhelme at one time or another, such as the Argentine Army, the Chinese Nationalist Army, Hungary, Ireland until 1940, Spain, Switzerland, and the Yugoslav People's Army until 1959. The helmets are also used by the Bolivian Army, the Chilean Army (in ceremonial services), and other militaries in some countries.
The shape of American PASGT helmet bears slight resemblance to the Stahlhelm.
